But if you get here early, your kids can enjoy the large hills that offer fun without the fear factor. This is a Northeast Philly favorite, so it can get crowded. John Byrne Golf Course-Northeast Philadelphia This neighborhood spot has a mix of small and larger hills to accommodate a range of abilities. Chestnut Hill Water Tower-Chestnut HillĪn abundance of bumps on the way down these popular slopes makes this location a favorite in the northwest section of the city. But beware, picking up speed down one hill can land you in the Fox Chase Cancer Center drive. With several hills to choose from, your kids can decide if they want the daring experience or the more mild slide. Plus, in beautiful Fairmount Park you can get some amazing views of the Philadelphia skyline and warm up in the nearby museums if it’s too cold. This spot is really popular and can get crowded, but the hills are nice and steep enough for kids to enjoy. Bartram’s is another hit that is suitable for all sizes and skill levels.įairmount Park is a prime spot to enjoy the snow. Better make sure the snow is deep and that the kids know how to sled at this one. With a steep, but concrete hill, sledders should be sure there is plenty of snow before pushing off. There is plenty of room to slide around and/or be pulled by a willing and energetic parent. The Airmount Grave Shelter is located on the left side of Hwy 5 approximately 5 miles north of the intersection of Hwy 5 & Hwy 43 at Thomasville ( 31★8’08.4″N 87☄0’10.1″W – Google Maps). In 2009, Hope Family Properties deeded this grave shelter and cemetery to the Clarke County Historical Society. ![]() The shelter was placed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on Februas a part of the Clarke County Multiple Property Submission. The shelter covers graves of six members of the John Hope family. This is believed to be the only grave shelter of its type in Alabama. The unusual splayed eaves and vaulted, or “compass” interior ceiling, of this grave shelter can be traced to Eastern Seaboard church yards in Delaware and Virginia. The Airmount Grave Shelter, also known as the Hope Family Grave Shelter, is a Greek Revival structure located in the Airmount Cemetery near Thomasville.
